When doing a full strip and re-paint there is a SB (SB 80-0415) for doing polished leading edges.

What's the real benefit here, just so the next paint job is a little easier? Anyone had this done yet.

It adds about 14K to the paint job cost and I wonder if I ever get that back. Doubting if at the next paint job years from now I'll get a 14K discount because the edges are polished.

Apart from the aesthetic improvements, the polished leading edges provide a surface that is not affected by aerodynamic erosion (particles suspended in the air that may damage the painting of the leading edges).

As result, the paint job will last more, and someone claims that the undamaged skin also benefits to the wing laminar flow and also ice accretion is less probable.

I like them, but I bet you’ll not get any discount on the next painting...
